Abstract

Abstract: Accent is the high and low air pressure on each word as a distinguishing feature, which is a rule that is determined because of the habits of the people in an area. Intonation is a change in the rise and fall of a tone, the intensity or emphasis of a note, or the short length of a note. This study discusses the pronunciation errors of accent and intonation in class 2019 students of Japanese Language Education Study Program of Teacher Training and Education Faculty at Riau University. The purpose of this study was to determine the pattern of pronunciation errors in accent and intonation in class 2019 students. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative. The results of this study indicate that the class 2019 students tend to pronounce with a flat accent and decreased intonation. This is due to the lack of students' understanding of accent and intonation. In addition, there are differences in the length of time studying Japanese and listening to audio in Japanese, so it can be concluded that students have limitations regarding pronunciation in Japanese.
