PENERAPAN METODE PEMROFILAN KRIMINAL DALAM PROSES PENYIDIKAN TINDAK PIDANA PEMBUNUHAN DENGAN MOTIF SEKSUAL DI WILAYAH HUKUM KEPOLISIAN DAERAH RIAU

Abstract

The criminal profiling method is a process of deducing the physical, demographic, and
behavioral characteristics of a suspect through the elements of the crimes they have committed.
This method is utilized by investigators in the Indonesian National Police as one of the
techniques aiding the investigative process. For example, this method is employed in the
investigation of criminal acts involving sexual motives within the jurisdiction of the Riau
Regional Police. Based on this, the objective of this research is to understand how the criminal
profiling method is applied in the investigation process of homicides with sexual motives within
the jurisdiction of the Riau Regional Police, as well as to identify and offer solutions to the
challenges faced by investigators from the Riau Regional Police in implementing the criminal
profiling method in the investigation of homicides with sexual motives in their jurisdiction.
This study is a socio-legal research conducted within the Sub-Directorate IV of the
General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Riau Regional Police. Primary and
secondary data sources are utilized. Data collection techniques involve interviews and
literature reviews. Qualitative data analysis is conducted, generating descriptive data and
conclusions through deductive thinking methods.
The results of this research indicate that the application of the criminal profiling method
in the investigation process of homicides with sexual motives in the jurisdiction of the Riau
Regional Police begins with profiling the victim, followed by analyzing the crime scene and
behavioral evidence. The final stage involves conducting interviews and adjusting the created
profile to the apprehended suspect. However, the challenges faced by the investigators of Riau
Regional Police in implementing the criminal profiling method in the investigation of
homicides with sexual motives include the fact that the sought-after perpetrator is someone
skilled, meticulous, and intelligent in committing the crime. This becomes difficult for
investigators because there is currently no specialized unit tasked with analyzing criminal
behavior to assist in the investigative process. A solution proposed to address this issue is to
establish a specialized unit dedicated to criminal profiling comprising mental health experts
and experienced investigators in handling criminal cases.
