Abstract

Abstract

Dengue  Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is one of communicable diseases with morbidity that always increases every year and often causes death. The high number of DHF cases are indirectly caused by the behavior of the family it self. Family has the most important role in controlling the DHF desease. If in a family there is a family member affected by DHF, family should maintain and care for the sick family member. The role of quickly and accurately handling by family can help both during treatment process at home or in the hospital. The design of qualitative research with the descriptive phenomenology method approach aims to dig deeper into the family experience in caring for family members who suffer from DHF disease. The results obtained from seven participants gained five themes, namely 1) the family knowledge about DHF disease, 2) management and family treatment process at home, 3) family efforts to tackle DHF patient, 4) the process of family treatment while in hospital, and 5) process family treatment during the post-hospitalization. The treatment  process conducted by family will determine the healing process of DHF patient both during at home, while in the hospital and post  hospitalization. Motivation and family support is necessary for patients with DHF that will help to undergo treatment and recovery process quickly. The results of this study recommended for nurses to provide good education to families about management and  treatment of dengue  patients to  prevente  mortality due  to DHF.
