IMPLEMENTASI PROYEK BELT AND ROAD INITIATIVE (BRI) DI MYANMAR TAHUN 2018 – 2020
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out how the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) project by China in Myanmar. BRI is a foreign policy of the Chinese state. BRI is a mega project that will connect China with countries in Asia, Europe and Africa. China is building an economic corridor, one of which is in Myanmar. In this project, various infrastructures are built that can support the Myanmar economy and build connectivity for China.
This study uses the perspective of Liberalism. Liberalism believes that cooperation is a rationality characteristic of human nature, positive changes in international relations can be achieved by cooperative cooperation. This research is also guided by the theory of National Interest. The method used is a qualitative method. Data collection techniques include literature studies from several journals, books, documents and websites.
This research shows that the implementation of the BRI project in Myanmar is slow. China has proposed 40 projects under the China and Myanmar economic corridor but until 2020 only 9 projects have been confirmed from the Myanmar side. The causes of the slow pace of the BRI project are among others caused by economic, socio-political and environmental factors, both internal and external in Myanmar.
